Genoa Coach Hire for Groups and Events

No coach access ticket is charged in Genoa, and coaches may set down almost anywhere for up to 30 minutes. The catch is parking: the coach parks are few, and most need booking.

Set-down around the old town

The centro storico is pedestrian only, a maze of narrow lanes called caruggi. Coaches stop around it. The city names four of them: Piazza Caricamento facing the Aquarium, Piazza De Ferrari, Piazza Dante, and Piazza Villa next to the Spianata Castelletto. Each allows up to 30 minutes.

Caricamento suits the Aquarium and the Porto Antico. De Ferrari suits the cathedral of San Lorenzo, the Palazzo Ducale and Via Garibaldi with the Palazzi dei Rolli, a UNESCO site.

Where the coach parks

Via di Francia, west of the centre, is listed for coaches. Near the Fiumara shopping centre there is also a paid coach park of roughly 40 places, reached from the first exit of the Strada a Mare Guido Rossa, and an open-air coach park at Marina Aeroporto, linked by city bus to Sestri Ponente station. Both of these need booking.

Genova Piazza Principe, in the west near the cruise and ferry terminals, and Genova Brignole in the east are the two main stations. The A7, A10, A12 and A26 motorways all meet here.

Coach rules in Genoa that shape the day

  • Genova has its own airport, Genova Cristoforo Colombo (GOA), about 11 km from Piazza De Ferrari (about 20 min). Of the larger airports, Milano Linate (LIN) is about 150 km (about 2 h 10 min by coach), Pisa (PSA) about 164 km (about 2 h 25 min) and Milano Malpensa (MXP) about 186 km (about 2 h 45 min).
  • Main stations: Genova Piazza Principe (west, near the cruise and ferry terminals) and Genova Brignole (east). Four motorways meet at Genova: the A10, A12, A26 and A7.
  • The centro storico is pedestrian only. Genova charges no coach access ticket to enter the city.
  • Set-down and pick-up only (up to 30 minutes) is allowed almost everywhere; the city lists Piazza Caricamento (opposite the Aquarium), Piazza Dante, Piazza De Ferrari and Piazza Villa (by the Spianata Castelletto).
  • Coach parking listed by the city: Via di Francia (city centre, west); a paid coach park with about 40 spaces near the Fiumara shopping centre, reached by the first exit of the Strada a Mare Guido Rossa, booking required; and an open-air coach park at Marina Aeroporto, booking required, linked by city bus to Genova Sestri Ponente station.
  • Portofino and the Riviera di Levante: the coast road to Portofino is narrow and parking there is very limited; groups often go by boat from Genova, Camogli, Rapallo or Santa Margherita Ligure. The operator confirms the coach access and stopping point.
  • The Salone Nautico (boat show) fills the seafront exhibition area and the hotels each September; plan coach parking early for those dates.

Boat show and events

The Salone Nautico fills the seafront exhibition area at Piazzale Kennedy and the hotels every September. Coach parking for those dates needs planning early. Outside the show, meetings use the Palazzo Ducale or the Magazzini del Cotone congress centre at the Porto Antico.

Genoa and Sampdoria both play at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Marassi. A visiting team or supporters' club agrees its set-down point with the operator well before match day.

Portofino and the eastern Riviera

Portofino is reached on a narrow coast road with very little parking. Many groups go by boat from Genoa, Camogli, Rapallo or Santa Margherita Ligure, and the operator confirms coach access and the stopping point. By road Camogli is about 40 minutes and Portofino about 50.

La Spezia, for the Cinque Terre, is about 1 h 45 min. Milan is about 2 h 5 min, Turin about 2 h 30 min and Nice, in France, about 2 h 55 min.

Questions organisers ask

Which airport is best for Genoa?

Cristoforo Colombo, Genoa's own airport, about 11 km from Piazza De Ferrari and roughly 20 minutes away. Of the larger airports, Linate is about 2 h 10 min by coach, Pisa about 2 h 25 min and Malpensa about 2 h 45 min.

Is there a charge just to bring a coach into Genoa?

No. Genoa has no coach access ticket. Parking in the paid coach parks is separate and booked in advance.

Where does the coach meet a cruise group?

The cruise terminals are near Piazza Principe station. No official coach stop is published for them, so the operator fixes the meeting point with the group.
