Since September 2025 gran turismo coaches can get to their yellow arrivals bays solely through a reserved ZTL lane, which requires a permit issued by the Comune di Milano. The same applies to NCC vans and buses with more than 9 passenger seats. City cameras watch the lane, and the operator obtains the authorisation.

In the bay itself, the coach may do nothing but take people on or let them off. It cannot sit there through a delayed flight, and neither the free-flow lane nor the departure lanes are open to buses. So the coach holds off until the group has its bags, then comes in. Give the operator flight numbers and the group leader's mobile.

The airport names no group meeting point. Choose one with the operator when booking, inside the hall near the exit.

Into the centre

Area C, the charged zone inside the Bastioni, admits only Euro VI buses on weekdays, and the operator checks the vehicle's eligibility. In the centre, coaches set down at Piazza Castello or Via Marina. For a few stragglers, the M4 metro gets from the airport to San Babila in roughly 12 minutes. For a hotel outside Area C the emission rule matters less, but send the address anyway so the route can be planned.

Where the coach meets the group

• Under ENAC Ordinance 4/2025 (Linate), in force since 30 September 2025, the arrivals zone has marked yellow bays for scheduled buses, gran turismo coaches and NCC (cars with driver). Gran turismo coaches, and NCC vans and buses with more than 9 passenger seats, reach their bays by the reserved ZTL lane, and only with an authorisation from the Comune di Milano; they may stop only for the time needed to load and unload passengers. NCC with up to 9 seats reach their barrier-controlled areas in the arrivals zone by the free-flow lane. The airport publishes no group meeting point: agree it with the operator when booking.

Coach parking and waiting

• There is no coach waiting area: coaches stop only to load and unload, and only in their own bays. Buses and oversized vehicles may not use the free-flow lane or the reserved departures lanes. Access to the reserved lanes is checked by Comune di Milano cameras. Short-stay car parks P10, P11 and P12 give cars 15 minutes free.

By road to the city centre

• about 7 km by road to Piazza del Duomo, in the centre of Milano, about 20 min in light traffic; longer at peak times

Straight to the lakes or Bergamo

Como is about 56 km from Linate, around 1 h 15 min; Bergamo's Città Alta about 54 km, around 1 h 5 min. Of the three airports serving Milan, Linate sits nearest the centre, so an arrival here leaves more of the first day free. For groups heading east, Orio al Serio next to Bergamo is the other option.

How long can a private car stay?

Does a hired minibus need the authorisation too?

If it has more than 9 passenger seats, yes: it uses the reserved lane like a coach. Smaller vehicles take the free-flow lane.
