Meeting Your Group at Twelve Italian Airports

At an Italian airport the coach rarely waits at the terminal door. Each airport sets its own bays and time limits by ordinance, and those rules change during the year. One page per airport below.

Bays, ordinances and distance

Airport roads are governed by ENAC ordinances, issued several times a year, so the current rules are checked before travel. At Fiumicino, Linate, Pisa and Malpensa a coach needs an authorisation or agreement to use the arrivals bays, and the operator arranges airport access. Florence has only three coach bays, so the pickup is timed closely. No airport publishes a group meeting point: it is agreed with the operator when booking.

Distance changes the day as well. Malpensa is about 53 km from Milan's Duomo and Bergamo airport about 56 km; only Linate, about 7 km, is close. Catania is the airport for Taormina, about 65 km away. Fiumicino is about 28 km from Piazza Venezia, about 35 minutes in light traffic.

Questions organisers ask

What do you need for an airport pickup?

Flight number, scheduled arrival, headcount and the amount of luggage. The meeting point is agreed with the operator when booking.

What happens if the flight is late?

Tell the operator as soon as you know. Coach bays have time limits, at Fiumicino up to 45 minutes, so the coach may leave the bay and come back.

Which Milan airport is best for a group?

The one on your tickets. If you have a choice, Linate is by far the nearest to the centre.
