Pisa Airport coach transfers: P6, the check point and Tuscany beyond

Pisa airport is about 5 km from the Leaning Tower, around 15 minutes. For many groups it is not the destination but the way into Florence, Lucca or the Cinque Terre. Either way, the coach needs an agreement with the airport before it can use the bus bays.

Bays for coaches with an agreement

Since June 2026 the bus car park P6 has five bays plus one for emergencies, and three further bus spaces sit beneath the terminal canopy. Every one of them is reserved for buses that have signed an agreement with the airport company. Securing that is the coach operator's job, not yours.

The engine rule is strict: off when the coach arrives, back on no earlier than 5 minutes before it departs. Pisa sets no group meeting point. Pick one with the operator: the group gathers inside, then walks out to the coach together.

Into Pisa: the check point first

Every coach entering Pisa must first call at the Pietrasantina check point, even with a permit bought online. Staffed hours are 08:30 to 19:30, and payment is by card, never cash. A coach arriving at night collects its permit after 08:30, which matters for a late flight and a hotel near the Tower.

In town, coaches drive only on set bus corridors. To set down inside a ZTL with camera gates, the hotel must also register the coach in the city's portal. Ask the hotel to do it once the coach is confirmed.

Where the coach meets the group

  • Under ENAC Ordinance 3/2026 (Toscana), in force since 24 June 2026, the airport's bus car park P6 has 5 bays for buses holding an agreement with the airport operator, plus one emergency bay, and 3 more bus bays under the shelter in front of the terminal are for buses with an agreement. Buses heading for P6 may use the limited-traffic lane (ZTL). NCC (cars with driver) wait in 6 bays in the 'Parcheggio Terminal', in front of the arrivals exit, for up to 60 minutes. The airport publishes no group meeting point: agree it with the operator when booking.

Coach parking and waiting

  • Coach access to P6 and the terminal bays depends on an agreement with the airport operator, which the coach operator arranges. Engines must be switched off on arrival and started no more than 5 minutes before departure. Cars get 12 minutes free (with 5 minutes' tolerance) in the short-stay bays of car parks P1, P2 and P3.

By road to the city centre

  • about 5 km by road to Piazza dei Miracoli (the Leaning Tower), about 15 min in light traffic; longer at peak times

Florence, Lucca, La Spezia

By road, Lucca is the short hop: about 35 km, some 40 minutes. Florence and La Spezia are both about 85 km off, yet Florence takes around 1 h 40 min against La Spezia's 1 h 20 min. Cinque Terre groups leave the coach at La Spezia and switch to a train or a boat. Livorno's port area is about 25 km, around half an hour.

Questions organisers ask

Is there a train from the airport?

The Pisa Mover shuttle reaches Pisa Centrale in about 5 minutes, and regional trains go on to Florence and Lucca. With a group and luggage, the coach avoids two changes.

Can a car with driver wait for us?

Yes, for up to an hour, in six NCC bays of the Parcheggio Terminal facing the arrivals exit.

Can the coach drive to the Cinque Terre villages?

No. Its last stop is La Spezia or Levanto; from there it is rail or sea. The villages have almost no room for coaches.
