Fiumicino coach transfers: the Terminal 3 Bus Station and the road into Rome
At Fiumicino a group coach collects arrivals in one place: the Bus Station on the arrivals level of Terminal 3. Only coaches holding the required authorisations may use it, and the stay is capped. Plan the landing around that bay and its clock.
Where the group meets the coach
Fiumicino uses two terminals, 1 and 3. The Bus Station is beside exit 6 of Terminal 3 and signposted BUS inside the building. A group landing at Terminal 1 still walks there, so put the terminal on every booking and check it again a few days before the flight.
Fiumicino publishes no group meeting point, so fix one with the operator at booking: a spot in the hall where the group leader can count heads before anyone walks out.

45 minutes at arrivals, 15 at departures
A coach may stay up to 45 minutes at the Bus Station and up to 15 minutes in the departure bays inside the departures ZTL. Each stop is paid at a meter against the number plate. Driving on the terminal roads without authorisation is fined, and getting the coach cleared for the airport is the operator's job.
Forty-five minutes goes quickly when half the group is still at baggage reclaim. If the flight is late, the coach waits away from the terminal and comes in once everyone has their bags. Send flight numbers, not just landing times.
Where the coach meets the group
- Under ENAC Ordinance 3/2024 (Fiumicino), gran turismo coaches holding the required authorisations stop in dedicated bays: at arrivals at the Bus Station of Terminal 3, and at departures in dedicated bays inside the departures ZTL (limited-traffic zone). The Bus Station is on the arrivals level of Terminal 3, next to exit 6, signposted 'BUS' inside the terminal. Cars with driver (NCC) licensed by Roma or Fiumicino may enter the departures ZTL; NCC from other municipalities, and those without an airport sub-concession, collect a ticket at the NCC point near the 'Lunga sosta - Economy' car park and then pick up clients from reserved bays on the ground floor of multi-storey car park B (Terminal 1) or in car park PR7 (Terminal 3). The airport publishes no group meeting point: agree it with the operator when booking.
Coach parking and waiting
- Coach stops are paid at the parking meters, entering the vehicle's number plate. A coach may stay up to 45 minutes at the Terminal 3 Bus Station (arrivals) and up to 15 minutes in the departures bays. Driving on the arrivals and departures levels without authorisation is sanctioned under Law 33/2012. The NCC permit at multi-storey car park B or PR7 covers 40 minutes for pick-up and exit; Via Generale Santini is closed to NCC vehicles.
By road to the city centre
- about 28 km by road to Piazza Venezia, in the centre of Roma, about 35 min in light traffic; much longer at peak times
Into Rome: permits and a Euro 5 floor
Piazza Venezia is about 28 km away, around 35 minutes in light traffic and much longer at peak times. Central Rome is divided into coach zones that need a permit bought online for that vehicle, and coaches below Euro 5 are kept out. Ask for the emission class on the quote and give the hotel address early.
Short-notice road works are common on the airport roads. The operator checks the current access route shortly before the transfer.
Straight to the cruise port
Civitavecchia is about 66 km from the airport, measured to Largo della Pace where the port begins, around an hour in light traffic. For a fly-and-sail day, leave margin for a late landing, reclaim and ship check-in. Private cars cannot reach the quays, and any vehicle going into a terminal area needs a permit from whoever runs that terminal.
Questions organisers ask
Can a small party use a car instead of a coach?
Yes. Up to nine seats including the driver is an NCC car with driver. NCC cars licensed outside Rome and Fiumicino collect clients from reserved bays: in car park B, the multi-storey by Terminal 1, or in PR7 by Terminal 3.
Is the train quicker?
The Leonardo Express reaches Roma Termini in about 32 minutes. For a school class, a group with heavy bags or a hotel far from the station, the coach saves a change and a long walk.
Which terminals are in use?
Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 only. Check the terminal on each ticket shortly before travel and pass it on with the passenger list.
