Coaches for teams, clubs and supporters
A team's trip has fixed points that cannot move: kick-off, the warm-up, the officials' schedule. The coach plan works back from those, so the drive times have to be honest and the parking at the ground known before the day.
Drive times at coach speed
A bus over 8 t is capped at 100 km/h on the autostrada and 80 km/h on other roads beyond built-up areas, and lower signed limits come first. A coach is slower than the physio's car, so build the timetable on coach times: Milan to Turin about 2 h 10 min, Bologna to Florence about 1 h 45 min, Rome to Naples about 3 h 5 min, all in light traffic.
Most autostrade charge a toll by vehicle class. Ask the quote to show whether tolls are included.

At the ground
Every stadium handles coaches its own way. In Naples, the area in front of the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, on the Via Marino side, is a long-stay coach area. In Florence, the Piazzale Campioni del '56 coach park beside the Artemio Franchi is unavailable on match days, so a visiting side needs another plan. Verona's Stadio C coach park is at car park C of the Bentegodi.
In Rome, the Olimpico-Tor di Quinto coach area near the Stadio Olimpico is open, while Olimpico-Farnesina has been shut since June 2026 for Metro C works. Areas close for events at short notice, so the operator confirms the stopping point near the date. Team-bus access inside a stadium is a matter for the home club: ask them and pass their instructions on.
Rules the organiser should know
- Category D covers vehicles built to carry more than eight people besides the driver; D1 covers vehicles for up to 16 people besides the driver and up to 8 m long (art. 116 c. 3)
- Buses over 8 t are limited to 100 km/h on motorways and 80 km/h on other roads outside built-up areas, so long transfers take longer than by car
Kit, tournaments and away weeks
A squad of 20 with bags, balls and medical cases often needs a full-size coach for the holds alone, even when a midi-coach has enough seats. List bikes, poles or bulky kit on the request.
On a tournament week the driver may postpone the weekly rest for up to 12 days on a single occasional trip, and since 2024 that covers trips inside Italy too. The daily limit stays at 9 hours of driving, or 10 on two days a week.
Questions organisers ask
Do players have to wear seat belts on the coach?
Yes. Every passenger over three uses the belt fitted to the seat while seated.
Which licence does the driver hold?
Category D for a coach, or D1 for a minibus of up to 16 passengers and 8 m, both with the CQC driver qualification card.
Can supporters travel on a separate coach?
Yes. Book it as its own vehicle with its own pick-up points. Give the supporters' meeting points and the kick-off time, and the operator confirms where each coach waits at the ground.
