Coach Hire for Groups at the Venice Carnival
The Carnival season of 2027 begins on 23 January and ends with Shrove Tuesday on 9 February. The coach part of the day is short. The vehicle brings the group to the edge of the city, and everything after that happens on foot or on the water.
Where the coach stops
No coach reaches San Marco. Piazzale Roma is the one point in the historic centre a road reaches, and Tronchetto and Fusina are the other coach points. From Piazzale Roma, San Marco is a walk or a vaporetto ride away. Yellow signs fixed to the walls point towards San Marco, Piazzale Roma, Rialto and the railway station, which helps when a group splits up.
Coaches carry the AVM pass for Venice's coach zone, and the operator buys it. Carnival days are busy at the coach points, so the operator confirms the stopping point and the waiting arrangement for your date.

Inside the city on foot
The historic centre is entirely pedestrian, and bicycles are banned, even pushed. Getting around means walking, waterbuses, water taxis, or the traghetto, a gondola that ferries people over the Grand Canal. Crowds around San Marco slow everything down. Fix one meeting point and one time to start the walk back to the coach, and give every group leader both.
During acqua alta, the main pedestrian routes stay usable on raised boardwalks. Expect slower progress and wet feet.

Access fee and paperwork
On certain days, day-trippers must pay Venice's access fee. No 2027 calendar was out by early October 2026; look it up once your date is fixed. Agencies and tour operators can join the city's convention and issue one QR-code voucher for a party of 10 to 60.
A group sleeping in the Venice municipality is not a day visitor, and a coach carrying only hotel guests there can use a reduced hotel pass for the coach zone. Tell the operator where the group is staying.
Questions organisers ask
How long is the ride from the airport?
Marco Polo to Piazzale Roma is roughly a 25-minute coach ride in light traffic, a distance of some 15 km. Carnival crowds can make the last stretch slower.
Is a coach worth it for the Carnival?
For the arrival and departure, yes, especially from the airport or a mainland hotel with luggage. During the day the group does not need it; Venice is seen on foot and by boat.
Can the group cycle in Venice?
No. Bicycles are banned in the historic centre, even when pushed. Plan on walking and the waterbus.
